Don’t Sleep On Robbie Lawler Vs. Rory MacDonald

July 15, 2015

The Conor McGregor show is UFC 189, plain and simple. Since Jose Aldo bowed out and Chad Mendes stepped in as a last minute main event replacement, the Irishman’s mouth and brash attitude has only flared up further, treating Mendes as a second rate fighter.

A headlining caliber co-main event has gotten swept under the rug because of the focus on the main event. With Aldo pulling out, Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald is not only a world-class rematch to a fight that Lawler squeaked out in a split decision at UFC 167 in 2013, but also the better matchup with the Welterweight title on the line.

These two guys don’t seek out the spotlight, but would rather do all their talking with their fists. They are both relentless, even though Robbie has 8 years on Rory. MacDonald has the benefit of training with Georges St-Pierre and an upgraded skill set from the last time they fought. Robbie is coming off of maybe his biggest win against Johny Hendricks in another rematch, and is in top form as well.

Don’t sleep on the co-main event. It has all the ingredients to be Fight of the Night. Someone is walking out of UFC 189 with the Welterweight title and for both fighters it will not be easy. Enjoy the show.
