UFC 189 Preview

July 6, 2015

The fight world was shaken this week when Jose Aldo pulled out of his atmospherically hyped superfight against Conor McGregor days before the event. Aldo’s flakiness is Chad Mendes’ fortune, giving the featherweight a shot at the big-mouthed Irishman McGregor for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 189.

While Conor has been nothing short of dominant since coming into the UFC, many were surprised at how quickly he got a title shot. Does he have enough experience to take care of UFC vet Chad “Money” Mendes who pushed Jose Aldo to the limit? Short notice or not, this is a top tier fight and what we do know is there will be a new featherweight champ Saturday night.

The over-shadowed co-main event features “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler against the Canadian phenom Rory McDonald in a welterweight title fight. Robbie is old school and still has some of the heaviest hands in the UFC. McDonald will have a lot to say about this opportunity. Lawler beat him at UFC 167, however this is a totally different Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald. Enjoy the show.

Best of the rest:

Dennis Bermudez takes on Jeremy Stevens in a featherweight clash that is make or break for both fighters.

Welterweight Gunnar Nelson versus last minute replacement Brandon Thatch in another important fight for relevance in the welterweight division.

Matt Brown fights Tim Means in the preliminary main event.

VFD, a Miami based sports marketing agency, gives brands the opportunity to capitalize on the growing popularity of MMA and the UFC. Although Chad Mendes is a less known fighter to the general public than Jose Aldo, he will challenge the Notorious one. This one just might be an epic battle.
