UFC 193 Recap: Aloha Ronda

December 9, 2015

Holly Holm was supposed to be fed to the Ronda Rousey machine at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. What the fight world got was anything but that. Holm completely shattered Rousey’s façade of invincibility with left after left straight to her face. After the first round, Ronda’s face looked nothing like we’ve ever seen. Then came the kick heard around the world.

Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey in the beginning of the second round, winning the women’s bantamweight title, ending Rousey’s undefeated streak and shocking the world. This may have been the biggest upset in the history of the UFC. It definitely ranks high in all fighting sports.

In the co-main event, women’s strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk held onto her belt with a unanimous decision over a really beat up Valerie Letourneau. This match was fierce, but Letourneau took most of the damage.

Best of the rest:

  • Mark Hunt knocked out Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in the first round.
  • Uriah Hall lost to Robert Whittaker in a decision.
  • Jared Rosholt beat Stefan Struve in a unanimous decision.
