UFC Fight Night 74 Recap

September 2, 2015

UFC Fight Night 74 from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada has come and gone, but not without some controversy. In the highly anticipated main event, Max Holloway defeated Charles Oliveira, but not in any expected way. Early in the first round, Oliveira grabbed his collarbone and waved off the fight, signaling that he was injured and unable to continue. The fight was officially ruled a technical knock out for Hollaway, and Oliveira was stretchered out of the Octagon with a reported esophageal tear. Holloway is now on a seven-fight winning streak in the featherweight division since losing to Conor McGregor in 2013.

In the co-main event, frequent fighter Neil Magny defeated an out of shape Erick Silva in a controversial welterweight decision, only because Magny seemed to dominate the fight. It was unexpected to see any scores on the card in favor of Silva.

UFC veteran Patrick Cote knocked out Josh Burkman in brutal fashion. Both fighters took home $50,000 for Fight of the Night.

Frankie Perez took home Performance of the Night with his first round knockout of Sam Stout. He also took home the surprise of the night when in the post-fight interview, he announced his retirement from the UFC at only 26. He said that he accomplished his dream, and now wants to preserve his body for his life and family. He really took care of business in farewell.
