Clay Guida Visits Troops at Guantanamo Bay
By Clay Guida
Just last week, I had one of the greatest honors of my life: MusclePharm sent me to visit our troops stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. From the moment we got on the ferry GITMO, to the moment we stepped off the plane at the base, each and every individual from every branch, and the civilians aw well, treated us with the utmost respect.
We did unforgettable things like going on tours around the island. It meant so much to me to be able to have my dad on the trip as we learned about the history of the base together. While meeting the soldiers is great, getting to do fun things like play volleyball, snorkel, and BBQ was awesome because you could tell how much it meant to the soldiers who give up everything to protect our country. It's nice to have a distraction, and when you think about the life or death scenarios they are put into, it makes stepping into an Octagon seem pretty tame.
Later in the day, we took in some great musical performances and got to see an amazing K9 demonstration. Everybody was so amazing and it was great to know that we made an impact on them, and for the short time I was there, I was honored to be able to spend time with the troops and their families.
I look forward to visiting more of our country's military and I would encourage everyone to do something to give back to our nation's finest, even if it's just saying "thank you" to the next person you see in uniform.
