GUIDA EXCITED TO HEADLINE UFC ON FX 4

April 3, 2012

UFC star athlete Clay Guida is no stranger to the limelight.  Being a fan-favorite at the highest level of mixed martial arts has afforded Guida the opportunity to fight in front of millions.  It is with great fanfare that Guida will be headlining the upcoming UFC on FX 4 battle with top lightweight contender Gray Maynard in Atlantic City on June 22.

"I think it's going to be an awesome opportunity to show the fans what I can do," Guida said.  "Gray has proven himself to be as good as anyone in the division and beating him will go a long way towards getting me right back where I need to be."

Both fighters enter this matchup coming off a loss- Guida to current champ Benson Henderson and Maynard to former champ Frankie Edgar.  The winner of this fight will instantly make their claim to a title shot as Edgar and Henderson are scheduled for a rematch. "It definitely has huge title implications for both of us and I think because of that, the fans are going to see an absolute war," Guida said.

As Guida prepares for this huge fight, he finds himself back in the familiar confines of Jackson-Winklejohn MMA, where his game has reached new heights, seeing him take out top lightweight fighters such as Takanori Gomi and Anthony Pettis.  "I've trained harder and smarter, and the thanks for that goes directly to my coaches and sponsors like MusclePharm and SafeAuto who make sure that all I have to worry about is my training," said Guida. "Since I've made the switch to Jackson's MMA, I think you can really see where my game has evolved and that evolution is going to continue in Atlantic City.  I'm so excited to be able to fight in front of all my East Coast fans!"

Another thing that Guida is looking forward to is that his fight with Maynard is scheduled for five rounds.  Guida has always prided himself on his unmatched cardio and relentless work eithic.  "The longer the fight goes, the better, as I can fight for days on end," Guida said. "I'm always prepared to go the distance thanks to my non-stop training.  I know that this sport comes down to who is willing to work the hardest and nobody works harder than The Dude."

For now, the training is on and the preparation will not stop until these two top contenders meet in Atlantic City.
