Top 4 Upcoming International UFC Events

June 20, 2014

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is continuing its global expansion to new markets. Only a few years ago, the UFC was limited to events in Canada, United Kingdom and some other locations in Europe. In 2014, it’s a completely different story, with events in China, a triumphant return to Germany, Japan, upcoming supercard in Mexico City and much more. It’s an incredible phenomenon from a sports marketing perspective. So there you go, below are four international UFC fight cards you should be waiting for in 2014.

UFC Fight Night Dublin (Jul 19)

Every UFC event one or two members of the media have to ask the UFC president Dana White “when are you coming back to Ireland?”. Well, July 19 is the date. Be there or be square. The 14,500-capable O2 arena will surely be a sellout for this stacked Fight Pass event.

UFC 178: Jones vs. Gustafsson II (Sep 27)

The rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson is a fight of monstrous proportions. Despite Canada being a common destination for UFC events, this Toronto date is circled with bold red on every fan’s calendar. Rogers Arena could’ve been a perfect location for this fight, but the UFC decided to go with a more humble Air Canada Center.

UFC 180: Velasquez vs. Werdum in Mexico (Nov 15)

It’s probably one of the biggest events on the UFC calendar for 2014. Mexico is a huge combat sports country, with legendary fighters coming from boxing, MMA, and even professional wrestling. Expect a sold-out arena for this one. Oh and of course, VFD’s Erik “Goyito” Perez is also most likely also to be featured on the card.

UFC Fight Night Istanbul (Nov 22)

This one is quite puzzling since there are not so many Turkish fighters in the UFC. Alptekin Ozkilic is one of the few names that spring to mind, yet, let’s not underestimate the market for MMA in Turkey. From sports marketing perspective, the crowd there is hungry for MMA, and the UFC will surely deliver it to the best of their abilities.
