Top 5 Fights Featuring VFD Sports Marketing Athletes

March 1, 2013

VFD Sports Marketing fighters can be easily labelled as “the bonus hunters”. That’s because nearly every fight involving #TeamVFD fighters wins KO of the Night, Submission of the Night, or Fight of the Night.

In fact, we have the most decorated roster when it comes to fight night awards, not speaking about three Fight of the Year winners. Just look at Leonard Garcia’s Wiki page.

Just before the weekend kicks in, here’s a list of absolutely essential five fights you need to watch, involving VFD Sports Marketing fighters. Whether you’re new to MMA or a long-time fan, you’ll find your favourite scrap in this list of five epic encounters:

1. Leonard Garcia vs. The Korean Zombie (WEC 48, 24.4.2010)

The legendary scrap between Leonard Garcia and Chan Sung Jung was voted Fight of the Year back in 2010. Garcia won via split decision in what can be easily described as a typical “Bad Boy” fight. Just like TKZ, Garcia left everything inside the cage, going guns blazing during all three rounds. This was without a truly inspirational spectacle of supreme athleticism, heart and determination. “Bad Boy” will be looking to give more of the same in his future appearances inside the Octagon.

2. Clay Guida vs. Roger Huerta (TUF 6 Finale, 8.12.2007)

Clay Guida is one of the most entertaining fighters in the game. Unlimited gas tank, tons of heart, and incomparable skill in virtually every aspect of Mixed Martial Arts. In fights like this, it doesn’t really matter who’s the winner. It’s just about what really makes this sport so popular and magnetic to those who have never watched it before. Guida vs. Huerta was voted 2007 Fight of the Year.

3. Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez (TUF 9 Finale, 20.6.2009)

Everything in this fight was amazing – from the entrances to the fight itself. Oh, and how can we forget probably the most intimidating staredown in UFC history. Guida and Sanchez delivered a memorable performance. This was one of the fights that you’d watch 5 years later and still jump off your seat. This back and forth battle earned both fighters the prestigious 2009 Fight of the Year Award.

4. Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone (UFC 141, 30.12.2011)

There was absolutely no love lost between Nate Diaz and Cowboy Cerrone. The result? An outstanding Fight of the Night performance that will be remembered for years to come. Both fighters got their heart and determination tested inside the cage, with Nate Diaz getting the decision victory.

5. Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley (Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley, 9.4.2011)

This fight ended in round 1, but what a round it was. Back and forth action, with both fighters trading punches at the fence. Daley dropping Diaz, Diaz responding with strikes of his own… what a war. In the end, Nick Diaz’s trademark pace was too much for Paul Daley, who got knocked out with just a few seconds left on the clock. This fight proved Nick Diaz is one of the best on the planet.
